QUALIFICATIONS:

  • (1) Valid Alabama, CDL and school bus driver’s license required
  • (2) A high school diploma or GED required.
  • (3) Must meet all local, state and federal licensing requirements and regulations requirements to operate a school bus and automobile.
  • (4) Must pass and is subject to drug tests as required by federal and state law and the Board’s policies regarding drug testing.
  • (5) Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record
  • (6) Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to operate the vehicle safely over an assigned route according to a definite schedule which may require driving during pre-daylight and dusk periods, ability to operate a vehicle in compliance with all traffic and safety laws and regulations including defensive driving habits and posted speed limits, physical dexterity, coordination, mobility and visual acuity to safely operate a school bus.

Transportation Supervisor

JOB GOAL

To transport students to and from school in a safe environment

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • (1) Adherence to all traffic laws.
  • (2) Must perform required pre-trip inspection according to state mandated guidelines
  • (3) Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • (4) Maintain discipline when students are on bus.
  • (5) Report to the proper authority students with discipline problems.
  • (6) Transport students to and from school.
  • (7) Prepare for and assist students in evacuating the bus and to transport safety/first aid equipment to care for injuries.
  • (8) Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing.
  • (9) Report all accidents immediately to the transportation office and other appropriate authorities.
  • (10) Attend periodic safety meetings
  • (11) Keep monthly route report and daily pre-trip inspection report.
  • (12) Keep the bus clean and orderly daily.
  • (13) Report all needed repairs to the bus shop mechanics by filling out the bus for the passengers.
  • (14) Regulate heating, cooling and ventilating equipment provided on the bus form the passengers.
  • (15) Keep to assigned schedule and discharge students only at authorized stops.
  • (16) Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness
  • (17) Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-town school trips.
  • (18) Transport only authorized persons.
  • (19) Enforce regulations against smoking and eating on bus.
  • (20) Notify dispatcher and Sub Finder of absences.
  • (21) Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the System’s approved compensation plan.

Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the System.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
