Responsibilities
Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center is a 118‑bed Acute Psychiatric Hospital and Residential Treatment Center for children and adolescents ages four through eighteen. The 55,000‑square‑foot facility sits on approximately 10 acres in the southeast corner of Alabama, less than 20 miles from both Florida and Georgia. In addition to the living units, the facility houses the New Day Academy; a state‑supported year‑round K‑12 school with vocational opportunities.
The hospital employs approximately 200 staff members.
We are seeking a Patient Transport/Driver to coordinate and perform duties in the operation of a vehicle to assure safe transportation of patients to and from the facility to various destinations and to assist patients on entry and exit from vehicles as required.
- Coordinate and perform a variety of duties in handling and organizing transportation activities for the facility.
- Manage daily transportation routes, vehicles used, number of assistants needed, and communicate information to Nursing Administration.
- Prepare and organize a daily transportation schedule to ensure the timely transportation of patients and other facility personnel.
- Prepare written transportation and pre‑trip inspection reports for each vehicle operated through the facility, including number of passengers, destination, and mileage for the day.
- Perform minor maintenance on the facility’s vehicles, including fueling, oil checks, washing, and cleaning interiors; schedule repairs or maintenance work to vehicles as needed.
- Run errands at the request of authorized facility personnel.
- Operate a motor vehicle (mini‑van) to assist in carrying out patients’ medical appointments and other external patient‑related activities.
- High School Diploma or GED
- CPR Certified or ability to be certified
- Valid driver’s license
- Clear driving record for the last 3–5 years
- Comprehensive knowledge of local and surrounding area streets
- Experience driving minivans or other passenger vehicles
- Working knowledge of rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation of automotive equipment
