Teacher
ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required. The teacher plans instruction, provides written lesson plans, establishes positive learning expectations, evaluates progress, and maintains accurate records. Instructional methods include applying contemporary principles of learning theory, using available instructional materials, developing new teaching techniques, and creating bulletin boards that reflect students' current work.
The teacher upholds the Chicago Public Schools Uniform Discipline Code, maintains attendance records, encourages self‑discipline, promotes student growth, and facilitates communication with parents and guardians. Additionally, the teacher participates in professional meetings, coordinates field trips, and may work on extracurricular and after‑school activities.
Education and Experience. Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework needed for the appropriate teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
License Requirements. Teachers must possess at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of
Education:
Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills. Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements and contemporary teaching practices; knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques.
Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs, collaborate with faculty and administration on instructional programs, work effectively with students, parents, guardians, staff, and community representatives, and understand the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
Skill in applying contemporary principles, strong oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and exercising sound professional judgment.
Physical Requirements. Light work: occasional lifting up to twenty pounds or frequent lifting up to ten pounds; requires stooping, reaching, handling objects, constant speech and hearing, and frequent visual acuity.
