Job Description

Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher supports the Diocese of Tucson in its mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The teacher serves as a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally.

Classification

Certified Teacher (Arizona Standard Professional Teaching Certificate) or Certified Teacher – Pathway (Alternative Teacher Certificate). Position classification is “Certified Teacher” and pay classification for payroll purposes is “Teacher on Contract.” To remain on contract, the teacher must maintain certification current and in good standing.

Primary Function

The teacher is responsible for upholding the Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instructing consistently with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School; refrain from espousing doctrines inconsistent with the Church.
  • Live and model Gospel values, actively participate in faith community activities.
  • Participate in, and help plan, school religious and service activities.
  • Lead and participate in daily classroom prayer.
  • Plan lessons that meet academic goals and include Catholic religious curriculum.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge of academic and religious curriculum and communicate effectively with students.
  • Teach in an online learning environment when required (e.g., Google Classroom).
  • Use effective methods of evaluation related to curriculum objectives.
  • Establish a consistent disciplinary approach promoting self‑direction and positive self‑image.
  • Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
  • Cooperate with school and diocesan administration; attend faculty trainings and meetings promptly.
  • Enforce school policies and regulations with professional responsibility.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information and adhere to dress code standards.
  • Abide by rules and directives received from the principal; perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements

The teacher should have coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual capabilities, and the ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.

Required Activities

Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.

Basic Qualifications
  • Strong commitment to fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church; must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • Excellent communication skills: written, oral, public speaking, and presentation.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; self‑starter, well‑organized, team player.
  • Availability for evening and weekend work as necessary; reliable transportation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in computer technology, including word processing and Excel; maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies in a ministerial environment.
  • Complete a criminal history and background check.
  • Professional bearing and clean, neat personal appearance.
Education and Experience
  • Completed bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Certified by the State of Arizona as a Teacher with renewal per state law.
  • Level I of the Diocesan Ministry Certification with renewal every three years.
