The Position

Full‑time EHS Floater – a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment for children. The Floater assists the assigned teacher with day‑to‑day management, classroom planning, and supports rotational assignments across the center. Faculty may be called to assist other centers in the service area.

Specific Responsibilities

Conduct daily head count and complete daily attendance records and meal count.

Follow the approved curriculum and daily schedule, assist in development and implementation of daily lesson plans that meet Head Start performance standards.

Monitor, document, and follow the policy for reporting suspected child abuse.

Observe, assess, and record the behavior of assigned children, including use of assessment tools.

Document each child’s program of activities, ensuring goals are established and achievements recorded.

Collaborate in developing individualized education plans (IEP) for children with identified disabilities and individualized prescriptive plans for children at risk.

Assist in inventory and procurement of classroom materials and supplies.

Accompany teacher on home visits with parents or guardians.

Coordinate volunteer activities.

Maintain confidentiality of child, family, and program information.

Assist in implementing the curriculum focused on physical, social/emotional, and mental development.

Demonstrate and model effective classroom management techniques, prohibiting corporal punishment and isolation.

Advise parents of progress, document all contacts and attempts.

Encourage participation and reinforce positive parental behavior.

Supervise arrival and departure of children, loading/unloading buses.

Assist in organizing interest areas: blocks, library corner, science area, dramatic play, table toys, art area, music/movement, sand/water, computer, writing, storage.

Ensure the classroom environment is neat, attractive, and displays child work.

Maintain classroom records per specialist protocols.

Report equipment repair or placement needs to Teacher.

Coordinate community resources with approval of Center Coordinator/Lead Teacher.

Promote parent and community volunteer participation, seeking in‑kind donations.

Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations.

Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, and choice making; ask open‑ended questions.

Assist in other centers as needed.

Perform other duties assigned.

Requirements

Minimum:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred: CDA/TCC credentials or coursework in Early Childhood Education.
Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
