Part-Time Faculty Member

Join our team at South Georgia State College! South Georgia State College is a residential state college of the University System of Georgia. SGSC focuses on a core of strong teaching and personalized academic advising. It has a long and distinguished tradition of serving the people of Georgia. Students pursue associate degrees in 20 programs of study, eight bachelor's degree programs which are transferrable to other institutions or prepare them for careers in a variety of fields and South Georgia State College institution has given residents in South Georgia a chance to further their education since the early 1900s.

The primary duty of a part-time faculty member is teaching.

Responsibilities include:

  • Meet each class as scheduled at the designated time and place and for the designated length of time.
  • Provide each student with a syllabus per the guidelines in the faculty handbook at the beginning of each course.
  • Maintain a minimum of ten office hours for student consultation per week, appropriate to the time and delivery method of the assigned courses.
  • Develop new courses and course materials as appropriate.
  • Attend and participate in all college-wide and appropriate School meetings.
  • Participate in professional development activities on an ongoing basis.
  • Stay current in the teaching discipline(s) and the pedagogy of that discipline.
  • Submit correct proof rosters and grades in Banner by the assigned deadlines.
  • Record daily attendance according to institutional policy.
  • Submit assessment data to discipline committee chair in a timely manner.

Required qualifications include:

  • The completion of a master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Biology or related field.
  • Two years of teaching experience.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • The Doctorate Degree in the Biology or related field.
  • Three years of teaching experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Ability to engage students in higher order learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
  • Ability to align instruction with student learning outcomes.
  • Mastery of the teaching discipline.
  • Adherence to institutional policies and procedures.
