Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant treats both physical and mental conditions through comprehensive history taking, physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests. The mid‑level provider diagnoses disease and provides appropriate treatment for patients.

    • Registered Professional Nurse License and Graduate of Nurse Practitioner Program or Graduate of PA Program.
  • Licensure
    • American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification or PA license.
    • Nurse Practitioners License in good standing with the Georgia Board of Nursing or PA license in good standing with the Medical Board.
    • CPR certification/ACLS and PALS as required for specialty.
    • Up to date CME'S.
  • Experience
    • Prefer experience within a physician office.

    • Sedentary:
      Exert up to 10 lb. of force occasionally and/or a minute amount frequently – greater than 75%.

Specific Duties and Performance Standards
  • Below are the essential functions of the position:
    • Work in an independent and interdependent relationship with co‑workers of the medical staff which allows for consultation, collaboration, or referral(s).
    • Ability to use CPT and ICD‑9 coding effectively and appropriately.
    • Signs off on all dictation/test ordered as well as ensuring collaborating physician signs as well.
    • Assist physician as needed.
    • Assist with any nursing duties as needed.
    • Examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
    • Interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
    • Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of patients.
      * Administer or order diagnostic test.
    • Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, staple removal, suturing and/or removal, wound care, and infection management.
    • Educate patients and/or families about preventive care, family planning, medical issues, and use of medical treatment and or medications.
    • Maintain legible, accurate and confidential medical records, documenting all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, tests performed, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals and consultations.
    • Facilitate evaluation of record by physician(s) and receive and implement constructive directives.
    • Stay abreast of clinical issues, improvement procedures, medications, warnings, etc. and apply them accordingly.
    • Must keep up with CME's required for licensure.
    • Analyze new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature and hands‑on training. Review with collaborating physician and assimilate this knowledge into clinical practice.
Education and Competency
  • Attends all mandatory and department‑specific education and training programs as required.
  • Attends all required education and training and can describe his/her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job‑related hazards.
  • Has met all required competencies for the evaluation period as evidenced by job specific competency evaluations.
