Position: RN Weekend Shift FT

POSITION SUMMARY

  • The Registered Nurse (RN) works to promote good health and prevent illness.
  • Educates patients and the public about various medical conditions.
  • Treats patients and helps in their rehabilitation.
  • Provides advice and emotional support to patients' families.
  • Uses considerable judgment in providing a wide variety of services.
  • Focuses on the overall care of patients by administering medications under physician supervision and keeping records of symptoms and progress.
  • May supervise licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and Patient Care Techs.
OVERVIEW
  • The evaluation ensures individual performance, departmental goals, and organizational goals are aligned. It supports communication between manager and employee and encourages both parties to participate actively in the process.

Education:

  • BSN preferred but not required.

Licensure:

  • Licensed in good standing with the Georgia Board of Nursing and EKG course required.
  • Additional certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS) may be required.

Experience:

  • 1–2 years of experience preferred.

Interpersonal

Skills:

  • Positive and effective communication skills.

Essential

Physical Requirements:

  • Exerts 50–100 lb. of force occasionally and/or up to 30 lb. of force frequently (>75%).

Other:

  • Basic skills as defined by licensure and certification.

Additional Details:

  • Exposure to hazards (body fluid exposure level).

    Infants 30 days–1 year;
    Children 1–12 years;
    Adolescents 13–18 years;
    Adults 19–70 years;

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Below are the tasks, duties, and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the position’s purpose and objectives. They are the major functions for which the person in the position is held accountable. The following are the essential functions and corresponding performance standards.

  • Assess and diagnose patient and family needs for quality care:
    • Performs admission assessment per unit standards.
    • Identifies and documents patient/family teaching needs on admission.
    • Identifies discharge planning needs on admission.
    • Verifies patient identity.
    • Verifies patient allergies and NPO status.
    • Reviews current history, physical, laboratory results, pre‑procedure orders, and diagnostic results.
  • Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care):
    • Includes nursing diagnosis statements for each identified problem.
    • Creates patient/family teaching and discharge plan per unit standards.
    • Assembles necessary supplies/equipment before case start.
    • Verifies availability and condition of supplies/equipment.
  • Implements medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures:
    • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policies for medication administration, transcription, and recording.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of common medications: action, dose, and side effects.
    • Observes the five Rs for medication administration.
    • Shows proper procedures for all medication administration methods.
    • Administers blood and blood products per policy.
    • Initiates and maintains IV access per policy.
    • Documents IV site per unit standard.
    • Prioritizes and executes nursing care appropriately.
    • Provides emotional support and comfort measures.
    • Collects and labels specimens correctly.
  • Evaluates and reassesses patient care and responses:
    • Reassesses plan of care per unit standard.
    • Evaluates patient/relative response to teaching plan.
    • Adjusts plan of care as needed.
