Job Title: Quality Gage Crib Calibration Technician
Department: Quality Assurance (711)
Job FunctionThe Quality Gage Crib Calibration Technician is responsible for the management, calibration, maintenance, issuance, recall, and tracking of inspection, measuring, and test equipment used throughout the Douglas manufacturing facility. This position ensures compliance with AS9100, ISO 17025, customer requirements, FAA regulations (as applicable), and internal quality management system requirements. The technician maintains calibration records, performs in-house calibrations, coordinates external calibration services, and supports manufacturing and quality operations by ensuring measurement equipment accuracy and availability.
Calibrationand Metrology
- Perform in-house calibration and verification of measurement equipment including:
- Micrometers
- Calipers
- Height gages
- Dial indicators
- Bore gages
- Thread Gages
- Torque tools
- Pin Gages
- Pressure gages
- Digital measuring instruments
- Maintain calibration standards with traceability to NIST or other recognized national standards.
- Evaluate calibration results and determine equipment acceptability.
- Perform measurement system analysis (MSA) and support Gage R& R studies.
- Identify equipment requiring repair, replacement, or adjustment.
- Manufacture wooden boxes, pack and ship measuring equipment, tools and machinery for calibration and/or repair.
- Training in other areas / productive operations.
- Support in other areas / productive operations.
- Maintain inventory of all inspection and test equipment.
- Issue and receive gages and tooling from employees.
- Monitor calibration due dates and ensure timely recertification.
- Quarantine and control out-of-calibration equipment.
- Track equipment locations and user assignments.
- Manage spare gage inventory and replacement requirements.
- Maintain calibration records in accordance with AS9100 and customer requirements.
- Ensure compliance with documented procedures governing measuring equipment.
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
- Assist in corrective action investigations related to measurement equipment.
- Participate in root cause analysis for calibration-related nonconformances.
- Update calibration databases and tracking systems.
- Maintain calibration certificates and traceability records.
- Generate reports regarding equipment status and calibration performance metrics.
- Ensure proper labeling and identification of calibrated equipment.
- Recommend improvements to calibration and gage control processes.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with implementation of new measurement technologies and software systems.
- Associate degree in Metrology, Quality Assurance, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2-5 years of calibration, metrology, or gage control experience in an aerospace, aviation, defense, or precision manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience working within AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Familiarity with ISO 17025 calibration requirements preferred.
- Working knowledge of dimensional metrology principles.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
- Understanding of measurement uncertainty concepts.
- Experience with calibration management software.
- Knowledge of AS9100 requirements related to monitoring and measuring resources.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Use of manual and power tools.
Demonstrates initiative and ingenuity by proactively managing calibration activities, identifying measurement system risks, and implementing effective solutions to improve gage control, equipment availability, and process efficiency. Applies resourcefulness and technical expertise to resolve calibration-related issues, support AS9100 compliance, and enhance the accuracy and reliability of inspection and measurement systems.

Maintains a high degree of accuracy and concentration when performing calibration activities, managing records, and ensuring compliance with AS9100 and customer requirements.
