District - Transportation Spec - TRP- Highway Maintenance Foreman; PG: K - Douglasville, GA

Job Summary

Under supervision, provides entry-level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental, and traffic.

• Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff on a routine maintenance crew.
• Monitors a crew performing routine maintenance activities on the state route system in the assigned area.
• Provides training to lower-level employees in safety procedures and preventive maintenance techniques and enforces compliance.
• Coordinates planning and direction of all activities of the crew to accomplish tasks assigned by the supervisor.
• Maintains a positive working relationship with the traveling public.
• Evaluates personnel performance, provides feedback and counseling for professional growth.
• Completes all required monthly/semi-monthly documents, forms and reports.
• Operates all equipment assigned to the crew and acts as operator as required.
• Performs regular inspections of state routes and rights-of-way for routine maintenance and safety needs.
• Facilitates team/crew response to emergencies on the state route system as directed.

Based on operation requirements such as brine transport and on-call emergencies, possession of a Class A CDL may be preferred for some positions. The hiring manager reserves the right to interview only those who meet this criterion in addition to the minimum qualifications.

State Entry Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or one year of experience at a position equivalent.

Agency Minimum Qualifications

• Four (4) years minimum proven/qualified industry experience with roadway maintenance or construction.
• Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
• Successful completion of MSD Level 1‑4.
• Four years of experience performing roadway maintenance (external candidates).
• Certifications and experience:
  Certified flagger; temporary traffic control procedures per MUTCD Part 6; lead worker or supervisor experience; extensive knowledge of maintenance activities; completion of forms and reports; familiarity with the Foreman’s Manual; GAMS/AGILE Assets training and experience; traffic control and installation experience; MSDS experience; operation and preventive maintenance of equipment such as backhoes, farm tractors, forklifts, rubber‑tired loaders, etc.; gathering of necessary data (location, labor, equipment, materials);
  
  computer skills; GDOT maintenance and safety procedural training; supervisory skills; feedback provision; public relations; problem solving; basic math skills; power and hand tool operation; material inventory and work scheduling; customer service; interpretation of instructions; interpersonal skills; adaptability; work in adverse weather; lifting moderately heavy objects; eye‑hand coordination; physical endurance; manual labor; on‑call 24/7; visualization skills; understanding of department structure; ability to determine priorities and communicate with the public.

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A.
• CDL Tanker Endorsement.
