Wildland Fire Trainer
The Office of State Lands and Investments, Wyoming State Forestry Division, seeks a Wildland Fire Trainer in Douglas, Wyoming. The Fire Operations Supervisor – Training will work under the direction of the Assistant Fire Management Officer – Aviation. The position will design, deliver, and evaluate complex training.
They prepare training plans, course curricula, lesson plans, training scripts, student handouts, course material, and a wide variety of audiovisual materials. The individuals in these positions may have supervisory responsibilities and input into setting a budget. Work involves the planning and implementation of strategies, plans, and activities that may include fire prevention, public education, fire information, fire risk mitigation assistance and coordination, fire suppression, fire investigation, and trespass.

Essential functions include assisting with the development of strategies to develop program training & evaluation goals, reviewing and evaluating commercial training resources, preparing and explaining course lesson plans, developing brochures, transparencies, and other audio/visual aids for training, scheduling classes and curricula, writing training announcements and program summaries, creating and implementing learning objectives, maintaining education files and required reports, and participating in other Fire Management Team duties.
Preferences may be given to candidates with experience working with the Incident Qualification System (IQS) or other databases, knowledge of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) regulations, knowledge of Wyoming State regulations, strong time management, great attention to detail, and organization skills, and knowledge of fire operations, Incident Command Systems, aviation operations, and dispatch operations.
Knowledge includes distance learning, multi-media instructional methods, curriculum development, training needs assessments, instructional design, distributive learning methodology, policies and procedures of the work system, and appropriate methods and materials to accomplish training objectives.
Minimum qualifications include an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (typically; Forestry, Education, or Fire Science) and 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction). OR 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Instructor I. Possesses and maintains a valid state driver's license.
