GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking Highway Maintenance Technicians in Douglas, Wyoming, to perform various maintenance duties under limited supervision in order to provide a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system.
Douglas is located on the North Platte River and is known as the "Home of the Jackalope." Douglas has historical sites, outdoor recreation, and no state income tax.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative and not exhaustive.
- Maintains and operates complex equipment safely and proficiently.
- Trains incumbents in the operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Provide work direction to Highway Maintenance Assistant employees.
- Under limited supervision, flags traffic and sets up traffic control devices.
- Operates single and tandem axle trucks with equipment to remove snow and ice from roadway surface.
- Maintenance and upkeep of WYDOT Highway System and Right-of-Way, including litter removal, fence repair, drainage maintenance, mowing, sign repair, traffic control, paving, concrete repair, striping, and other tasks.
- Track time and material usage and log it in time cards or the computer data system.
- Maintenance and upkeep of equipment and facilities, including landscaping, janitorial care, repair maintenance, and water and wastewater treatment.
- May be required to obtain a WDEQ Water / Waste Water Operators Certification as needed.
- Attend and complete required training to obtain/maintain certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skills.
- Communicate information to update others on work status and/or process effectiveness.
- Utilize special computerized equipment.
- Perform duties involved in removing snow and ice from roadways.
- Adhere to all safety standards, policies, and procedures, including use of personal protective equipment.
PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Preference may be given to applicants with a current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements prior to employment. Must be able to obtain water certifications if necessary. Must be able to obtain certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT. Must be able to obtain a Certificate of course completion of Defensive Driving. Must be able to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.
Must be able to obtain a Flagger certification.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standards.
- Knowledge of specifications, standard plans, policies and procedures, rules, regulations, and traffic control standards.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair procedures.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials response procedures.
- Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for proper use of PPE.
- Knowledge of basic equipment operation for trucks, loaders, and tractors.
- Knowledge of Safe Work Procedures, First Aid, CPR, and MSDS for chemicals used in tasks.
- Knowledge of Hazardous Materials Response Procedures.
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize office equipment such as computers, calculators, and telephones.
