Qualifications and
Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Knowledge of Braille, large print, assistive technology, and other adaptive tools
- Previous experience working with students who have visual impairments preferred
- Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and goal setting
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Compassionate, patient, and responsive to student needs
Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, both in individual and group settings
- Develop, adapt, and implement lesson plans and materials tailored to students’ abilities and learning styles
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to ensure access to the curriculum
- Conduct functional vision assessments and provide recommendations for accommodations and modifications
- Train students in the use of assistive technology, orientation and mobility concepts, and life skills
- Monitor student progress and participate in IEP meetings, reporting on achievements and adjusting strategies as needed
