Teenagers Deserve an Adult Who Shows Up for Them. Could That Be You?
Director of Youth Ministries — Douglasville First United Methodist Church
Douglasville First United Methodist Church is a community of imperfect people growing together in faith, love, and service. We believe church should feel like family — a place where you belong before you believe, where questions are welcome, and where teenagers can be fully themselves. We're looking for a Director of Youth Ministries who genuinely likes teenagers, earns their trust, and helps them walk out of high school grounded in a faith that's truly their own.
This is a part-time, relational leadership role (about 20 hours a week) for someone who wants to lead youth ministry, not just supervise it. You'll be the adult our 6th-through-12th graders know they can count on — at Sunday School, at youth group, on a mission trip, or just checking in during a hard week.
Why You'll Love It Here- A congregation that genuinely believes church is better together — you won't be building this ministry alone.
- A Pastor and staff team who want to partner with you on vision and strategy, not just hand you a calendar to run.
- Freedom to shape what youth ministry looks like here — retreats, mission trips, Bible studies, service projects — around the gifts of your students and your own creativity.
- A congregation that wants its teens involved in the whole life of the church, from worship to leadership, not sidelined in a youth room.
- A flexible, part-time schedule built around what students and families actually need.
- Be the lead, dependable presence for teens and their families, week in and week out.
- Lead Sunday School, youth group, and serve as the go-to for Confirmation alongside the Pastor.
- Recruit and train volunteers who can build real, trustworthy relationships with our teens.
- Plan a calendar that stretches students — retreats, mission trips, service projects — and keeps families in the loop early.
- Keep Safe Sanctuary practices current so every family can trust our youth ministry with their kids.
- A bachelor's degree, earned or in progress, is required; a master's degree (earned or in progress) makes an exceptional candidate stand out.
- Experience working with teens — ministry, education, coaching, counseling, or a related field.
- A warm, organized, creative leader who genuinely enjoys teenagers and can earn their trust.
- A committed Christian who is glad to serve within a United Methodist congregation and its Wesleyan heritage of grace and good works.
