Primary Function
Under the direction of a Sergeant, this position shall provide law enforcement and police services to the school(s), school grounds and areas adjacent to the school(s); investigate allegations of criminal incidents per District and Douglas County School System Police Department policies and procedures; enforce state and local laws; make appropriate referrals to juvenile court and/or other governmental agencies; work to prevent juvenile delinquency through close contact and positive relationships with students;
develop crime prevention programs and conduct security inspections to deter criminal or delinquent activities; monitor crime statistics and work with local patrol officers, investigator's and students together to design crime prevention strategies; establish and maintain a close partnership with school administrators to provide for a safe school environment.

Educational LevelHigh School Diploma/GED required;
Associate's Degree or higher preferred.
Must be at least 21 years of age. P.O.S.T. Certified and qualified to carry a firearm. Peace Officer's Certification in good standing without any (open) current investigations. Must possess a valid Georgia Driver's License.
ExperienceMust have 3 years of successful law enforcement experience with a High School Diploma/GED or must have at least 1 year of successful law enforcement experience with a Bachelor's.
Physical RequirementsFrequent standing and walking. Requires repeated reaching by extending hands(s) and/or arms(s) in any direction. Using equipment requiring high dexterity. Requires good hearing; good near or distant vision; distinguishing colors and/or depth perception to judge distances. Requires extensive safety training and/or protective devices. May occasionally subdue offenders and criminals by using the minimum amount of force needed to protect the officer and other persons.
Coordinate security for crowd and vehicle control at extra-curricular activities and special events. Monitor and instruct students, visitors, and district personnel on proper and lawful campus or facility behavior.
- Make decisions that usually affect the assigned department and often affect outside assigned departments.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues that arise in the schools; must be able to effectively communicate with both public and school personnel; extensive communications (verbal and written) with students, staff and internal/external stakeholders is required; will be responsible for managing behavior of victims, witnesses and others when handling or responding to incidents;
requires the use of sound judgment; ability to work with youth and adults; ability to teach mini-courses to youth and adults. - Requires the ability to speak and signal to people to convey or exchange professional information. Requires the ability to read a variety of professional, technical, and administrative documentation, directions, instructions, methods, and procedures related to police work and law enforcement. Requires the ability to write reports and essays with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control, and confidence using correct English and a well-modulated voice.

- Required proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other office equipment such as incident reporting software, fax, copiers, and scanners.
Operates system equipment to include alarm systems, surveillance equipment, and patrol units when necessary. Coordinates security for crowd and vehicle control at extra-curricular activities and special events.
