JOB SUMMARY

This person in this position will be a Certified Officer under the supervision of the on-duty shift supervisors. The incumbent’s responsibilities include receiving prisoners and completing the arrest booking process. Additionally, the incumbent will also be required to: perform general clerical duties including computer data entry and completion of various departmental reports and forms related to the arrest booking process; and driving to various locations to transport wanted persons.

ESSENTIAL

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Receives arrested persons and is responsible for their custody and safety during the arrest booking process.
  • Responds to crime scenes to take custody of prisoners for transport and book-in purposes.
  • Drives and operates prisoner transport van while maintaining custody and security of prisoners.
  • Safely transporting prisoners to and from the county jail.
  • Picks up prisoners from other jurisdictions, transporting them to the police department and processing them accordingly.
  • Searches arrested persons for weapons and/or contraband for the purpose of officer safety and evidence collection.
  • Performs receipt and logging of the personal property of arrested persons while they are in custody at the police department.
  • Completes the departmental arrest booking report and other various forms for arrested persons at the police department.
  • Fingerprints arrested persons in accordance with G.C.I.C./N.C.I.C. standards.
  • Photographs arrested persons.
  • Handles bonding procedures when applicable through the police department.
  • Handles walk-in reports at the police department and other various reports as needed (i.e.
  • Vehicle tow releases).
  • Operates N.C.I.C., G.C.I.C. and the in-house computer system.
  • Handles walk-in police reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requires a high school diploma or recognized equivalent (G.E.D).

KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public under hazardous and trying conditions;
  • Knowledge of City of Douglasville Personnel Policy & Procedure manual as well as the Police Department Standard Operating Procedure manual (S.O.P).
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Georgia Driver’s License. Candidate must have a Georgia P.O.S.T. Peace Officer certification in good standing!!!

The employee is regularly required to:

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Incumbent deals with crisis situations that require major decisions involving people, resources, and property. Work may require exposure to dangerous and life-threatening situations. Must be willing and able to take the life of another if justified. Must be mentally and physically stable; willing to work any hour of the day or night (shift work), overtime, weekends, on call and holidays; work at any location in the City and travel on specific assignments.
