The University Social Media Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing social media strategies that enhance the university’s online presence and engage current and prospective students, alumni, and the broader community. This role requires creativity, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of social media trends and best practices. Photographs, films, and edits, events, locations, people, students, faculty, staff, etc.,
or other illustrative or educational material for use in marketing materials, publications, website, social media, digital, or any marketing spaces as directed by leadership.
This position reports to the SAVP, Marketing & Communications.
Essential FunctionsDevelop engaging and relevant content for various social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In, DSU HUB, Tik Tok) that aligns with the University’s mission and goals to boost the DSU brand, increase visibility and drive enrollment.
Monitor, manage, and grow the university’s social media accounts; respond to comments and messages in a timely manner.
Collaborate with marketing and communications teams and colleges to create comprehensive social media strategies that support recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts.
Track and analyze social media performance metrics; prepare regular reports to assess the effectiveness of social media campaigns and initiatives.
Work with faculty, staff, and student organizations to promote events, achievements, and news through social media channels.
Stay updated on industry trends, emerging platforms, and best practices to enhance the university’s social media presence.
Provide training and support to staff and student organizations on effective social media practices.
Monitor social media channels to identify and respond to comments, questions, and direct messages, mitigating potential brand exposure and maintaining a positive online presence.
Familiarity with platforms, functions, SEO, SMO, and best practices.
Knowledge of technology, techniques, methods, editing and formats in digital imaging.
Skills:
Strong writing skills for creating engaging content and effective communication.
Proficiency in the equipment, tools, and supplies used for capturing, processing, enhancing, and utilizing photographs and videography, including various cameras/lenses, image processing software, and lighting types.
Proficient in using Canva for creating social media posts.
Skills:
Proficient in analyzing social media metrics, including impressions, reach, and shares, to assess content performance. Ability to interpret data trends and insights to inform strategy, optimize engagement, and enhance overall social media effectiveness.
Understanding of copyright regulations and privacy laws regarding images, music, and content usage.
Knowledge of materials, techniques, and media in photography and videography on social platforms.
Understanding and appreciation of HBCU and post-secondary culture and storytelling.
Capable of utilizing visual techniques to achieve diverse effects and communicate messages that enhance social media engagement, showcasing students, faculty, alumni, partners, influencers and the community.
Understanding of the uses and effects of different types of lighting and sound methods.
Capability to work creatively under tight deadlines.
Ability to regularly move 50 pounds.
Ability to meet quick deadlines effectively.
Collaboration:
Work efficiently with others.
Maintain and communicate work schedules on and off campus.
