Fiddler on the Roof Submissions, Auditions The Candlelight Theatre

The Candlelight Theatre, located in historic Ardentown, Delaware (30 minutes from Center City, Philadelphia) is seeking non-union singer/actors for its upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof which runs Friday September 18 to Sunday October 25, 2026. Director – Bob Kelly, Music Director – Betsy Conner, Choreographer – Jody Anderson. The Candlelight Theatre encourages performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, as well as performers with disabilities to attend auditions.
Auditions will be held by appointment Monday, June 8th 6:00 – 10:00 pm and Tuesday, June 9th 6:00 – 10:00 pm. Callbacks will be scheduled if needed. Rehearsals begin on or around Monday, July 20, 2026 through Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The Candlelight Theatre is a professional Dinner Theatre located in Ardentown, Delaware, approximately 30 minutes outside of Philadelphia. All roles are paid. Restaurant opportunities are available to supplement income. Housing is not provided.
FIDDLER on the ROOF is the award‑winning tale of Tevye the Dairyman and his family’s struggles in a changing Russia. This musical score, beloved by theater‑goers for generations, includes songs such as "If I Were a Rich Man," "Matchmaker," and "Sunrise Sunset." Winner of nine Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof is based on Sholem Aleichem stories by special permission of Arnold Perl and the brainchild of Broadway legends Jerome Robbins and Harold Prince.

Fiddler on the Roof is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
How To ApplyPlease send pictures and resumes to Bob Kelly, Artistic Director bob and indicate your preference for either a Monday or Tuesday audition slot. Emails will be sent to arrange audition times for selected applicants.
For auditions, please prepare 16 (ballad) – 32 (up‑tempo) bars in the style of the show. Songs from the show are acceptable. An accompanist will be provided. Please provide clearly marked sheet music. No recorded tracks please. Readings will be provided. Some men will be asked to "move" (bring knee pads if you like). Please come with headshot and resume stapled together.
No calls to the theater, please.
Character Descriptions- Tevye – Father to 5 daughters. A likable, hardworking dairyman who always tries to see the positive side of life. A believer in tradition. Ab2 – F5
- Golde – Strong-willed wife of Tevye who wants her daughters to have easier lives than they have had. Strong actor with comic timing. Eb5 – A3
- Tzietel – Tevye's eldest daughter. In love with Motel. Strong actor/singer. B3 – D5
- Hodel – Second eldest daughter. Falls in love with Perchik. Spirited and determined. Strong lyric singer. B3 – E5
- Chava – Third eldest daughter. Loves to read. Falls for Fyedka, a Russian soldier. B3 – D5
- Shprintze – Tevye’s next to youngest daughter. 9 – 13 years old.
- Bielke – Tevy’s youngest daughter. 8 – 11 years old.
- Yente – The meddling matchmaker and village busybody who knows all the town gossip. F5 – F3
- Motel – Poor and meek tailor who loves Tzietel. Sensitive and nervous. E3 – F#4
- Lazar Wolf – Feisty butcher and the town's wealthiest citizen, who has his eyes set on Tzietel. C3 to F#4
- Perchik – Outspoken student and visitor to Anatevka. Constantly challenges tradition. B2 – E4
- Avram – Runs the local bookshop and the source of news of the outside world. D3 – Eb4
- Fruma‑Sarah – Lazar Wolf's deceased wife. Strong belt. C4 – Eb5
- Grandma Tzeitel – Ghost figure in the Dream Scene. C#4 – D5
- Constable – Russian officer stationed near Anatevka. Friendly with Tevye but follows orders.
- Fyedka – Russian soldier who falls for Chava. Sincere, charming.
- Rabbi – Anatevka's spiritual leader.
- Mendel – The Rabbi’s son.
- Shandel – Motel’s mother.
- Mordcha – The innkeeper.
- Nachum – The beggar.
- Yussel – The town hatter.
- The Fiddler – (No specific description provided).
All roles are open and paid. There are 3-5 performances per week. Additional restaurant opportunities, if desired, are available to supplement performance income.
