Epileptologist - Bayhealth Medical Center, Inc. Job Summary

We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Epileptologist to join our Neurology practice. The ideal candidate will provide specialized, comprehensive care to adult patients with epilepsy and seizure disorders across the outpatient setting, with opportunities to support the development and growth of Bayhealth's comprehensive epilepsy program.

The Epileptologist will evaluate and manage patients with a broad range of seizure disorders, including new-onset seizures, drug-resistant epilepsy, epilepsy syndromes, and diagnostic uncertainty between epileptic and nonepileptic events. The physician will work collaboratively with Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neurointerventional Surgery, EEG services, and other multidisciplinary teams to provide high-quality, evidence-based epilepsy care.

This position offers an outpatient-focused practice with opportunities to participate in the advancement of epilepsy diagnostics, treatment pathways, EEG utilization, and multidisciplinary epilepsy services.

Areas of Clinical Focus
  • Comprehensive evaluation and management of epilepsy and seizure disorders
  • New-onset seizure evaluation
  • Drug-resistant/refractory epilepsy
  • Epilepsy syndrome diagnosis and management
  • Seizure classification and treatment optimization
  • Differentiation of epileptic versus nonepileptic events
  • Medication management and antiseizure medication optimization
  • Management of epilepsy during pregnancy and other special populations
  • EEG interpretation and clinical correlation
  • Ambulatory EEG and prolonged EEG monitoring
  • Long-term video EEG monitoring interpretation
  • Evaluation of patients for epilepsy surgery when appropriate
  • Pre-surgical epilepsy evaluation and multidisciplinary case review
  • Management of status epilepticus and complex seizure presentations in collaboration with inpatient Neurology
  • Patient and family education regarding seizure safety, driving restrictions, and epilepsy self-management
Program Development Opportunities
  • Expansion and optimization of comprehensive epilepsy care
  • Development of standardized epilepsy clinical pathways
  • Collaboration with EEG technologists and Neurology leadership to optimize EEG services
  • Development of long-term video EEG monitoring capabilities
  • Advancement of ambulatory EEG services
  • Development of pathways for referral and evaluation of patients with medically refractory epilepsy
  • Collaboration with Neurosurgery for patients being considered for epilepsy surgery
  • Collaboration with Neurointerventional Surgery and other Neurosciences services when clinically appropriate
  • Development of quality and outcomes initiatives related to epilepsy care
  • Education of residents, advanced practice clinicians, nursing staff, EEG technologists, and other healthcare professionals as applicable
Job Requirements
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
  • Completion of an accredited Neurology residency program
  • Completion of an accredited Epilepsy/Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship
  • Board certification or eligibility in Neurology
  • Board certification or eligibility in Clinical Neurophysiology and/or Epilepsy, as applicable
  • Valid medical license or ability to obtain licensure in Delaware
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered neurological care
  • Demonstrated interest in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and seizure disorders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest or experience in epilepsy program development
  • Interest in clinical education and/or quality improvement
Work Schedule
  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Outpatient-focused practice
  • No routine hospital rounding or overnight call unless otherwise specified
  • Part-time opportunities may be available
  • Opportunities for additional clinical responsibilities based on physician interest and program needs

Practice Environment

The Epileptologist will join a multidisciplinary Neurosciences service line with collaboration across Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neurointerventional Surgery, EEG, and other clinical services. The position provides an opportunity to develop a specialized epilepsy practice while contributing to the growth of comprehensive Neurosciences services at Bayhealth.
