The posting is for a full-time Paraprofessional to support Caesar Rodney School District liaisons for the McKinney-Vento Homeless Program.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand all federal and state guidelines as they pertain to the eligibility of children and provision of services for the McKinney-Vento (MV) Homeless Program.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents/guardians, staff, and outside agencies.
- Assist district MV Liaisons with case management, meeting schedules, and clerical tasks on an as-needed basis.
- Coordinate case management for families with students in multiple schools.
- Coordinate with district and school MV Liaisons to document and track highly mobile students experiencing homelessness.
- Work in schools with school MV Liaisons to review student progress and problem-solve challenges.
- Coordinate efforts between families, community agencies, and school staff to expedite school enrollment for students experiencing homelessness.
- Network with community agencies to provide appropriate referrals to agencies, organizations, housing, and health care.
- Assist school nurses and other school staff to ensure students experiencing homelessness have medical needs met, i.e., glasses, immunizations, dental care, and mental health supports.
- Meet with MV students/families to determine needs.
- Maintain an inventory of MV supplies.
- Accompany Visiting Teachers on home visits when needed.
- Assist families in crisis (newly experiencing homelessness or those in a new placement, such as motels and doubling up) with referrals for food, clothing, and shelter.
- Perform community outreach check-ins at hotels/ motels and connect with families to provide resources and services to overcome homelessness.
- Utilize crisis intervention skills, case management, and community resource knowledge to support the families in moving toward greater family stabilization.
- Inform parents/guardians of students experiencing homelessness of educational opportunities and services available under MV.
- Collect data and information on students experiencing homelessness (including attendance and academic progress) to assist the LEA in grant applications and project management.
- Work independently on projects and tasks as assigned.
- Communicate effectively using both oral and written expression.
- Organize and inventory the supply closet on a monthly basis.
- Run weekly reports to identify students with attendance issues and establish which students need referrals and attendance hearings.
- Complete the truancy filing packet and collect the information needed for filing.
- Prepare documentation needed for attendance hearings and home visits.
- Complete residency home visits.
- Coordinate with community agencies to distribute donations to students in need.
- Additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for the permit, you must meet one of the following:
Option 1:
- Hold a high school diploma or recognized equivalent AND
- Meet testing requirements by either:
- Earning a qualifying score of 459 on the Para Pro Assessment (1755) (available through August 31, 2026), or
- Achieving scores of 332 on Para Pathways:
Reading and Writing (5758) and 334 on Para Pathways:
Mathematics (5759)
- Hold an associate degree or have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited institution, with a grade of "C" or better in each course
(Final approval of accepted credits is determined by the Delaware Department of Education.)

SALARY: In accordance with the State of Delaware and local salary schedules, based on experience and degree. Benefits package included.

- Individuals must provide official transcripts, if applicable, updated resume, and three (3) letters of recommendation.
- All persons employed by the Caesar Rodney School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
- Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
