The mission of Student Accessibility Services (SAS), within the Office of Student Success, is to provide equal opportunities and equal access to education, programs, and activities for all students with disabilities at Delaware State University. SAS works collaboratively with University Partners to foster a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive University community.
Essential Functions
Under the direction of the Director of Student Accessibility Services (SAS), the Student Accommodation Coordinator determines eligibility for accommodation for all students with disabilities enrolled in classes at Delaware State University and ensures appropriate implementation of accommodation plans. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of disability resources and legal compliance at the college level and be knowledgeable about the best practices in providing appropriate accommodations within a rigorous educational program.
In addition, they will assume the following responsibilities:
Reviews disability documentation, engages in the interactive process with the student to identify barriers to full participation in the curricular and co-curricular environments, and determines reasonable accommodation in order to mitigate barriers and provide equal access to all programs, goods, and services offered through Delaware State UniversityProvides individual and small group consultations on topics such as the exam accommodation/proctoring process, self-advocacy, communication with faculty, academic strategies and general disability-related advisingFacilitates the provision of accommodations and services including note-taking, adaptive technology, interpreting/transcribing services, readers, scribes, etc.Provides referrals to on-campus and community resources as appropriateSupports the Director in the production and analysis of data and reportsConsults with faculty to support the implementation of student accommodation plansProvides guidance and information on disability-related topics to the campus communityMaintains timely and accurate records of all student contactsStays abreast of current legal issues and trends associated with supporting accessibility in the college setting; maintains active attendance at conferences and professional meetingsOther tasks and duties as assigned to support the mission of Student Accessibility ServicesRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of ADA regulations and familiarity with issues in higher education and student developmentAbility to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA and HIPAA regulationsGoal-driven, self-directed, and creative with excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal and written skillsAbility to plan and implement administrative processes and proceduresExperience providing academic counseling in the areas of goal setting, time management and learning strategies to students with disabilitiesBroad understanding of reasonable accommodations, assistive technologies, and services used by students with disabilities in higher educationDemonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environmentStrong attention to detailAbility to relate and work with a diverse populationQualifications
Master's degree in counseling, education, educational psychology, social work, special education, or a related fieldMinimum of two years' experience providing support to students with disabilities in a college or university setting#J-18808-Ljbffr
