The Elementary Physical Education and Health Teacher will design and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes students' physical fitness, health awareness, motor skill development, and overall well‑being. Through developmentally appropriate activities and lessons, the teacher will support students in building coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, healthy decision‑making, and lifelong habits related to physical activity and personal wellness. The teacher will create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages active participation, self‑confidence, cooperation, and respect for others.
Additionally, the teacher will assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative measures, differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, and promote positive social‑emotional and behavioral skills through physical education and health instruction. The teacher will contribute to the school community through wellness initiatives, school‑wide activities, and collaborative efforts that support student health and achievement. The teacher will engage in ongoing professional learning, collaborate with colleagues, and integrate best practices to enhance student engagement and success in physical education and health education.
- Eligible or hold State of Delaware Certification as a Physical Education and Health Teacher K‑12.
- Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on the Child Protection Registry in the State of Delaware.
- Successful completion of required Praxis II tests and student teaching placement.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
Master’s degree preferred. - Knowledge and skills in working with students with disabilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administration, and the general public.
- Evidence of knowledge regarding evidence‑based strategies known to be effective in promoting student learning and achievement for students with disabilities.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groups.
- Proficiency in technology such as Microsoft and Google Applications, Classlink, Schoology, Infinite Campus, etc.
- Demonstrates understanding and ability to perform job‑related tasks.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
- Must be able to teach/serve students remotely and in person depending on students’ needs.
- Design and deliver instruction aligned with the state and national standards using district‑approved curriculum and resources.
- Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate physical education experiences that promote motor skill development, physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, safety awareness, and lifelong healthy habits.
- Deliver comprehensive health education instruction that supports student understanding of personal wellness, nutrition, mental and emotional health, substance abuse prevention, human growth and development, and decision‑making skills.
- Differentiate instruction using various teaching strategies and methodologies to address diverse learning styles, with particular attention to academic scaffolding for students at various levels of functioning and preferred learning modalities.
- Implement and monitor evidence‑based behavioral and social‑emotional interventions, maintain a structured classroom management system, and follow district expectations for Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention.
- Regularly administer, collect, and interpret formal and informal assessment data to drive instructional decisions and report progress to families and the district.
- Develop and deliver weekly lesson plans using appropriate resources, technology, and instructional strategies, incorporating a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and student inquiry.
