Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Spanish immersion teacher will teach two half-day sessions in Math, Science, Social Studies, and Literacy in Spanish. He/she will team with an English partner teacher who will primarily be responsible for teaching Language Arts in English. The Spanish immersion teacher will be expected to collaborate with the English partner teacher, and both will have the opportunity to attend trainings on district and state levels.
The Spanish immersion teacher must be prepared to:
- Collaborating consistently with the English partner teacher to support student success.
- Planning and delivering daily, differentiated lessons in Spanish across Math, Science, Social Studies, and Literacy.
- Adapting instruction to meet the needs of second language learners.
- Welcoming and accommodating classroom visitors, including prospective families and instructional observers.
- Conducting parent/teacher/student conferences and workshops with families from both cohorts.
- Maintaining regular communication with families regarding student progress in Spanish immersion subjects.
- Participating in weekly planning and data meetings with grade-level colleagues, instructional coaches, and administrators.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
- Passionate about working with elementary school students through a student-centered, whole-child approach.
- Motivated to inspire students and driven to improve instructional practice.
- Creative and collaborative team player.
- Committed to the principles of social justice and equity in education.
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Delaware Teaching License and Certification in Elementary Education (K-6) with a focus on Spanish, in accordance with 14 Del.
C. § 1531. - 1-2 years of teaching experience at the elementary level, preferably in a language immersion or bilingual program.
- TESOL
- Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages or Bilingual (Spanish) - Fluency in Spanish and English.
- Demonstrated strength in instructional delivery and classroom management.
- Capacity for self-reflection and openness to feedback for continuous improvement.
- Experience working in dual-language or immersion settings (preferred but not required).
- Initial, Continuing or Advanced Delaware Licensure
- Certified in K-6
