Job Goal: Under general supervision of the Middle School Bridge Program Coordinator and Director of Community and Family Engagement, provides instruction, coordination, and management in class for the Summer Academy Middle School Program.

Qualifications:
  • Possess an educator licensure and certification in Delaware.
  • Successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability by coordinating and working effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Strong Communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the educational system and the need for positive student outcomes.
  • Knowledge and experience in AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) instructional practices and strategies for student success preferred.
  • Job Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the pre-program preparation days.
  • Participate in the planning and instruction of the summer curriculum for groups of students following, the writing skills, and transition topics, (AVID instructional strategies and WICOR framework - focused on Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading.
  • Develop lessons aligned to the prescribed and provided WICOR units for each week of instruction.
  • Should have a strong foundation in student engagement and instructional strategies.
  • Implement 21st Century Instructional Strategies to develop student access to academic content and learning
  • Collaborate with SB coordinator to incorporate pathway presentation guest speakers within each unit of instruction
  • Flexibility to Participate in field trips beyond the school day
  • Utilize research-based best practices to address critical prerequisite skills and standards that students must know to advance in their learning. Design High-Impact Connectivity: Orchestrate a sequence of high-energy, goal-oriented team-building "challenges" that replace traditional icebreakers with collaborative problem-solving activities designed to build immediate peer-to-peer and student-to-teacher trust.
  • Develop AVID Traditions: Lead the daily practice of AVID Claps, affirmations, and celebrations to normalize a culture of mutual support and collective success.
  • Establish social-emotional norms that allow scholars to engage in rigorous Inquiry and Philosophical Chairs without fear of judgment, turning the summer series into a "brave space" for intellectual growth.
  • Monitor student progress toward achievement of instructional goals and write weekly and end of program progress reports as applicable to your position.
  • Develop and nurture the students' emotional, cognitive, and social abilities by developing relational capacity skills and interventions.
  • Interact with students in a polite, caring, and respectful manner.
  • Demonstrate clear and accurate oral and written communication.
  • Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
  • Demonstrates regular attendance.
  • Work cooperatively with staff, students and parents.
  • Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, use hands to the finger(s), handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, use fingers to type and/or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell.
