Instructional Paraprofessionals

Instructional paraprofessionals are needed for a full-time position with a 10-month term. This position is temporary if hired after the contractual start of the school year. The paraprofessional reports to the principal and follows the current paraprofessional salary schedule. To qualify, candidates must have paraprofessional certification in DEEDS via an associate degree (60 college credits) or have passed the Para Pro assessment test and possess a high school transcript or GED.

Strong content knowledge in special education is preferred.

Essential duties and responsibilities include providing assistance to special education students in achieving IEP goals and objectives, assisting the teacher in introducing and developing new skills, and supporting various instructional and activities with students as assigned. The paraprofessional also assists in establishing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning, supervises and monitors students during assigned duties, participates in staff and aide meetings, and ensures physical and environmental safety and adherence to conduct and disciplinary controls.

Additionally, the paraprofessional acts as a positive role model, is available to students and parents for educational purposes outside the instructional day, and performs related duties as directed.

Physical demands include using hands and fingers to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking or hearing, and tasting or smelling. The employee must frequently stand, walk, and sit, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Standard requirements include a favorable criminal background check and child protection registry check, a tuberculin test, and a physical. Direct deposit of the paycheck is mandatory.
