Odyssey Charter School is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and culturally responsive Special Education Teacher to support student learning in a rigorous, standards-based, and student-centered environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about fostering academic excellence, building meaningful relationships, and supporting a diverse student population. This role requires a collaborative educator who can effectively engage all elementary school learners, implement research-based instructional practices, and contribute to a positive school culture rooted in inquiry, critical thinking, and global awareness.
Minimum QualificationsMust hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Delaware License and Special Education Teacher Certification and Elementary Standard Teacher Certificate K-6 (HR - please edit to be in compliance with certification requirements)
Must demonstrate knowledge of special education laws and requirements
Exceptional classroom management, organization, planning, and instructional delivery of research-based interventions
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDeliver differentiated, evidence-based ELA and Math instruction (phonics, fluency, comprehension, writing) aligned to students' IEP goals and grade-level standards for students receiving services in LRE B
Design and implement structured, systematic lesson plans using evidence-based practices (e.g., explicit instruction, multisensory approaches, universal design)
Actively collaborate with related service providers to incorporate supports and generalize strategies in daily lessons
Write, review, and update Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student, including present levels, annual goals, and short-term objectives
Collect and analyze baseline data to develop measurable, standards-aligned IEP goals in ELA and Math
Participate in IEP meetings with parents, administrators, and related service providers
Ensure all IEP timelines, procedural safeguards, and IDEA compliance requirements are met
Implement and document IEP accommodations and modifications across all instruction behavior & social-emotional
Create a structured, predictable classroom environment to minimize anxiety and maximize engagement
Implement Behavior Intervention Plans with fidelity and collect ABC/behavioral data as needed
Use proactive classroom management strategies and trauma-informed practices
Support students in developing self-regulation, coping strategies, and social-emotional skills
Collaborate with school counselors, psychologists, and behavior specialist on interventions
Coordinate and administer state and district testing with appropriate accommodations
Manage paraprofessional staff, including scheduling, task delegation, and role guidance
Maintain regular, professional communication with parents/guardians regarding progress, concerns, and IEP updates
Participate in ongoing professional development related to special education, literacy, and math instruction
Reflect on instructional practices and seek feedback to continuously improve student outcomes
Performs other duties as assigned by building administration
