Special Education Teacher
This is a 10 month position, temporary for the school year if hired after the contractual start date for teachers. Reports to the building principal. Salary is based on the current teacher salary schedule. Minimum qualifications include meeting certification requirements of the State of Delaware for Exceptional Children K-12, strong content knowledge of special education, and successful completion of Praxis II exams.
Essential duties and responsibilities include teaching students with disabilities, planning a program of study that meets individual needs, preparing for classes assigned, encouraging students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior, guiding the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, employing a variety of instructional techniques and media, striving to implement the district's mission statement, assessing student accomplishments, maintaining accurate records, establishing communication with students, parents, staff, and administration, and performing other duties as assigned.
Physical demands include using hands and fingers to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking or hearing, tasting or smelling, standing, walking, sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds, and having close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Standard requirements include a favorable criminal background check and child abuse registry check, tuberculin test and physical, and mandatory direct deposit of paycheck.
