Position: Engineer I-III

Summary

The incumbent reports to the Chief of Engineering and Operations for the Division of Facilities Management and is responsible for reviewing specifications and drawings related to the design and installation of basic and accessory systems in state-owned or leased facilities. The role evaluates alternatives, considers administrative and technical impacts, and determines cost-effective solutions. The position works with Building Support Systems Engineers and assists in providing recommendations for new construction or remodeling of facilities, electrical and mechanical support systems, preparing reports, correspondence, and initial plans and drawings, and interpreting others’ reports.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, develop and modify engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
  • Review permit applications, blueprints, and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Apply principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Plan and conduct field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
  • Test or evaluate materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
  • Plan and coordinate engineering projects.
  • Review, analyze and report on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
  • Develop cost estimates for project time and materials.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to technical staff.
Qualifications Engineer I
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher (or anticipated graduation within 12 months) in engineering discipline(s) listed below or official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
  • Disciplines:
    Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Material Science Engineering.
Engineer II
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher (or anticipated graduation within 12 months) in engineering discipline(s) listed below or official notice of passing the FE examination.
  • Disciplines:
    Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Material Science Engineering.
  • At least one year experience in engineering discipline(s) listed above or possession of a Master's degree or higher in engineering discipline(s) listed above.
Engineer III
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher (or anticipated graduation within 12 months) or FE notice in engineering discipline(s) listed below.
  • Disciplines:
    Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Material Science Engineering.
  • At least four years experience in engineering discipline(s) listed above.
  • Knowledge of engineering project management including planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on project status.
