Summary
The Senior Manager Environmental Engineering is responsible for ensuring that Ryder’s environmental projects comply with all regulatory and corporate requirements, managing remediation and capital projects at FMS fueling locations to reduce risks, control costs, and support business growth.
Essential Functions- Business Growth and Cost Controls: Manage execution of the FMS 15‑Year Fuel Storage Tank Management Plan for selected regions, provide direct project supervision for site projects, and direct Project Engineers and Manager, Environmental Engineering staff to complete new fuel tank installations, upgrades, and removals.
- Building Materials Assessment: Manage the program supporting corporate building initiatives and other facility construction projects.
- Environmental Due Diligence for Acquisitions: Perform site assessments, review findings, develop operational contingencies, oversee groundwater monitoring, and supervise remediation, wastewater, stormwater, and subsurface investigations.
- Capital & Financial Standards: Ensure environmental projects meet Environmental Capital, Financial Reserve, and Ryder standards, and obtain required approvals under company capital expenditure policies.
- Vehicle Maintenance Facility Systems: Design and manage lubricant and compressed air systems for maintenance facilities, meeting operating fleet and financial guidelines.
- Supplier Management: Manage supplier qualifications and competitive bidding for environmental consulting, contracting, and laboratory services.
- Reimbursement & Financial Management: Maximize recovery from State Trust Fund Reimbursement programs and oversee fixed assets financial management policy.
- Infrastructure Repair & Maintenance: Oversee repair and maintenance of Ryder fueling infrastructure to minimize long‑term costs, maximize uptime, and extend useful life.
- Team Leadership: Supervise Project Engineers and Manager, Environmental Engineering staff, manage Company SPCC, Industrial Waste Water, and Storm Water programs, and manage supplier relationships.
- Stay current on federal, state, and local environmental regulations and establish guidelines for Industrial Waste Water, Storm Water, and SPCC programs.
- Provide environmental technical support to the FMS field organization, including future fuel island, DEF, automated self‑serve fueling, and alternative fuels.
- Manage Phase I & II Real Estate Environmental Site Assessments for acquisitions, disposals, and property occupancies.
- Direct hazardous building materials assessment and abatement projects supporting construction and repair programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Communicate and collaborate across multiple functional areas at all levels.
- Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and proficiency in Office Word, Excel, and Project.
- Experience interfacing with state/local environmental regulatory agencies.
- Leadership skills, including mentoring and motivating junior staff.
- Proven track record of building and motivating regional or national contractor, engineering, lab, and supplier teams to deliver cost‑effective, timely, and successful project results.
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, geology, environmental sciences, project management, or a related field.
- 10+ years managing site assessment and remediation projects following UST removals.
- 10+ years monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining, upgrading, and replacing underground and above‑ground fuel tank systems and related infrastructure.
- 10+ years in progressive project management with emphasis on underground and above‑ground fuel storage and dispensing infrastructure in a regional or national operating environment.

Compensation InformationSalaried position. Pay range: $140,000 - $160,000. Eligible for annual bonus, commission, and/or long‑term incentive plans.
