Overview
Waters Corporation is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the New Castle, DE area within the TA Instruments business unit. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a global leader in materials characterization by driving innovation and rapid prototyping in a multidisciplinary environment.
Responsibilities- Conceive and develop concepts to meet customer requirements.
- Prototype and evaluate concepts rapidly, identify risks early, and develop targeted test plans for efficient mitigation and rapid development cycles.
- Communicate status, results, conclusions, and next steps with clarity, highlighting impact and actionable plans.
- Integrate mechanical, electronic, control, and coding components into prototypes to accelerate concept evaluation and enable rapid iterations for efficient product development.
- Participate in and lead design reviews and provide feedback in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- Work with project and product management leads on technical ideation, risk retirement strategies, and solutions.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to develop product designs.
- Communicate concerns, suggestions, and improvements relating to engineering concerns and product lifecycle management.
- Ensure quality documentation of mechanical design, including BOM, drawings, and procedures.
- Propose and conduct simulations where relevant.
- Education: Minimum Bachelor's Degree, 5-7 years of experience, ideally in an industrial research and development environment.
- Experience: Prototype design, test, and analysis; ability to integrate multidisciplinary elements into prototypes for evaluation and validation; root cause analysis; extensive experience with 3D modeling (Unigraphics/Solid Works or equivalent); PDM and change process experience; GD&T knowledge and experience.
- Skills: Originating and interpreting engineering designs and concepts; strong interpersonal and technical communication; analytical and problem-solving abilities; strong organizational skills with multiple projects; understanding of physics and mechanical engineering principles (thermodynamics, structural mechanics, fluid dynamics); furnace and heater design, transducer design and operation, basic controls principles; strong materials science knowledge and familiarity with testing principles and techniques; ability to work independently and in teams;
proficient in statistical data analysis and clear presentation of results; experience with simulation tools for mechanical and thermal problems (preferably Ansys/Matlab); design for manufacture experience in assembly; hands-on fabrication/assembly techniques and working with machinists; willingness to be near the listed location for in-person engagement.
