Join Our Team! DNREC is Now Offering Sign-on Bonuses for Engineers! The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) recognizes its Engineers are a highly valued resource and play a critical role in protecting public health and the environment. For that reason, we are now providing monetary recruitment incentives to new DNREC Engineers in accordance to our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.

The program provides recruitment incentives as follows:
Sign-On Bonus– Incentives are based on the position classification:

  • $4,000 Engineer I
  • $5,000 Engineer II
  • $6,000 Engineer III
  • $7,000 Engineer IV

Incentives are paid in two installments. One installment after three months of employment and the second installment after eighteen months from the initial date of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DNREC in the Engineer I-IV series. Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State of Delaware.

You will receive more information during the hiring process. This program is administered by the DNREC – Employment Services section. The program may be terminated by DNREC at any time with or without notice.

Summary Statement

This position includes permitting and compliance work for minor and major facilities in the State of Delaware. Air permits authorize the construction and operation of equipment pliance work ensures that businesses are operating in accordance with the Federal and State regulations as well as in a responsible manner that is protective of the air quality of the State of Delaware.

Essential Functions
  • Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
  • Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
  • Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
  • Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
  • Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
  • Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.
Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer I Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Possession of a Bachelors degree (or have an anticipated graduation date within 9 months) in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Industrial, or Mechanical or official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination (in the assigned engineering discipline) administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
