Purpose of the Role

To assess the integrity and effectiveness of the bank’s internal control framework to support the mitigation of risk and protection of the bank’s operational, financial, and reputational risk.

Accountabilities
  • Knowledge of business areas, products, processes and platforms to assess risk.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the bank and business units to improve overall control effectiveness through detailed documentation of control assessments, procedures, and findings.
  • Identify and investigate potential weaknesses and issues within internal controls to promote continuous improvement and risk mitigation aligned to the bank’s control framework, prioritised by severity.
  • Develop reports to communicate key findings from risk assessment including control weaknesses and recommendations to control owners, senior management, and other stakeholders.
  • Execute reviews to determine the effectiveness of the bank's internal controls framework aligned to established and evolving policies, regulations, and best practice.
  • Implement adherence to the Barclays Controls Framework and set appropriate methodology for assessing controls against the Controls Framework.

  • Advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with other functions and business divisions.
  • Influence a team performing complex tasks using well-developed professional knowledge to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function.
  • Lead collaborative assignments, guide team members, and identify need for inclusion of other areas of specialization.
  • Consult on complex issues and provide advice to People Leaders to support resolution of escalated issues.
Specific to this Role
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls.
  • Perform work closely related to other areas, requiring understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to objectives.
  • Collaborate with other areas for business-aligned support and keep up to speed with business activity and strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information effectively.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
To Be Successful
  • A background in financial services with experience in risk oversight and control activities, including issue resolution, documentation of safeguards, and Risk and Control Self-Assessment.
  • The ability to review processes, recognize potential risks, and establish safeguards to reduce those risks, including evaluating requirements within Barclays Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to complete assignments.
Highly Valued Skills
  • Prior gap assessment experience (preferred).
  • Fin Tech experience (preferred).
  • Prior Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) experience.
Compensation

$115,000 - $130,000 a year.
