Summary
The incumbent in this position will work in the Central Business Office and provide department-wide support and oversight for all payroll operations for a large law enforcement agency, including bi‑weekly payroll processing, W-4 processing, data entry into the agency's payroll system, assistance to department employees with payroll-related inquiries, filing, data tracking and analysis, payroll reporting, and other payroll-related processes as needed.
Preferred QualificationsApplicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.
Six months' experience in an automated human resources or payroll management information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve, and report on data.
Essential Functions- Reviews and analyzes financial transactions and records to determine accuracy and monitors adherence to agency budget, applicable agreements, grants, or contracts, as well as state or federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- Analyzes, reconciles, and consolidates data to the general ledger from journals, records, and documents; takes trial balances and makes corrections, updates, and adjustments to bring funds into balance and maintains an audit trail.
- Reviews financial transactions, classification and codes to ensure accuracy and recommends changes.
- Maintains internal controls and applies accounting principles, practices, and standards.
- Provides advice and technical guidance on matters in assigned fiscal function(s).
- Compiles, analyzes and prepares a variety of statements and reports of financial health utilized in financial, budget, and personnel planning.
- Researches and provides data, reports and other documentation to state, federal and independent auditors and for other requests for financial information.
- Uses commercial and proprietary automated information systems and computer software to research, review, evaluate, and report on financial data.
- Delivers excellent customer service to internal and external customers and the public in person, electronically, or by written communication.
- Communicates and interacts effectively with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, ages, and races.
- May be responsible for purchasing, disbursement, and inventory of equipment and supplies.
- One year of experience in compiling, analyzing and reporting on financial data to ensure effective and efficient accounting of funds or to make projections for financial planning.
- One year of experience in ensuring compliance of financial transactions with budgets, applicable agreements, grants or contracts, and state or federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- Six months' experience in researching and analyzing accounting transactions and records to reconcile discrepancies or errors and maintain an audit trail.
- Coursework, training, and/or work experience in staff supervision which may include performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others.
