Introduction

The DNREC Shoreline and Waterway Management Section works to maintain and improve Delaware’s beaches, shorelines and waterways.

Summary Statement

The DNREC Shoreline and Waterway Management Section Field Operation Branch manages and maintains 62 miles of shoreline and 120 miles of navigable waterways and sand bypassing operations. Operations include resource management tasks such as beach nourishment, dredging, marine debris removal and hazard mitigation. This position is a field based position with expectations of 50% of annual time integrated with field operation crews in resource management tasks.

Additional duties of the selected employee will include assisting with GIS system management, assisting with survey requirements, permit application and review, grant writing, onsite permit compliance.

Selective Requirement

Selective Requirements must be met in addition to the job requirements. Applicants who do not possess the selective requirement will not be qualified.

  • Six months experience in using ArcGIS software.
  • Essential Functions
    • Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
    • Performs statistical analysis of data.
    • Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
    • Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.
    Job Requirements

    JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist III Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
  • Two years' experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
  • Two years' experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Two years' experience in technical report writing.
