General SummaryProvide orthopedic physician practice support services including surgery scheduling, medical assistant duties, paralegal duties, front office support (i.e. billing, patient information), and other related duties necessary for the efficient day‑to‑day operation of an outpatient physician office practice. Assist physician in obtaining patient history, vital signs, and performing simple office procedures.
Responsibilities- Surgery scheduling for 5 providers in 3 locations.
- a) Meet with patients; schedule pre‑op appointments
- b) Schedule cases and equipment with KGH OR, MMH OR and DSC; order special equipment from purchasing; notify equipment reps of cases and equipment needed
- c) Schedule cases per each provider's preference; making sure all authorizations are requested, received and provided to the hospital; schedule add‑on trauma cases as needed when providers are on call (approximately 3 weeks every month)
- d) Prepare weekly provider schedules
- e) Provide codes for surgery schedulers at DSC and KGH
- Perform Medical Assistant duties.
- a) Assist all providers in rooms; apply splints; suture/staple removal; draw up injections; room patients; check in/check out if needed
- b) Answer phone calls from patients; chart prep; order x‑rays
- c) Triage calls for front desk staff to appropriately schedule each provider per their preference; triage calls to make sure that all ER patients are seen within 24‑48 hours; review labs; prepare clinic schedule so that all providers are covered while in the office
- d) Travel to satellite offices as needed
- Paralegal assistance – preparing legal reports for the 5 providers.
- a) Compose response to narrative requests from attorneys or insurance companies regarding motor vehicle accident, slip and fall and worker’s comp patients. Obtain physician signature and distribute final narrative reports. Compose defense medical exam reports, as needed.
- b) Liaison between attorneys and doctors, fielding questions from the attorneys for the doctors, answering questions regarding patients care, etc.
- c) Assist physician in determining compensability of injuries in patients with multiple injuries or pre‑existing conditions by obtaining necessary additional information from attorneys or other physicians.
- d) Coordinate scheduling of depositions, defense medical exams.
- e) Preparing charts for deposition testimony including a summary of the injury, medical treatment and compensability.
- f) Summarizing medical records from other physicians for legal patients.
- g) Handle billing for depositions, defense medical exams and report fees.
- h) Review of patient charts with multiple accidents or injuries to make sure that the responsible insurance company is billed for each injury.
- Provide backup support for Office Manager as needed.
- All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED. - Credential(s):
Basic Life Support. - Experience:
3 years of experience with surgical scheduling; 3 years of Medical Assistant experience; including patient scheduling, medical billing and reimbursement, and clinical support experience, including obtaining patient history, vital signs, and basic office procedures; 2 years of experience preparing or responding to legal documents relating to motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, and worker’s comp patients. - Preferred: 5 years…
