General

Summary:



Under the general direction of the Manager of Health Information Management this position will serve as the primary resource for the Horizon Patient Folder system. Also will participate in all software development testing, user training, development of policies and procedures, and understands the integration of all systems that affect the Health Information Management operation as well as BHMC.

Responsibilities:

1. Maintains current working knowledge of HIM departmental applications and how they are used in department operations. Serves as the resource to HIM department management and staff in finding innovative ways to use workflow to resolve operational issues/barriers. Obtains concurrence from director and manager in how, when, and where to incorporate changes and enhancements.
2. Serves as a resource to other hospital departments outside HIM in finding innovative ways to use workflow to enhance operations or resolve operational issues/barriers. Develops or assists in development of education and training plans and tools. Conducts ongoing education and training to all users.
3. Is actively involved in the planning, testing, training and installation of new features and fixes to the Horizon Patient Folder system. Maintains active involvement with forms verification process before being entered into the Horizon Patient Folder System.
4. Creates and manages users, record views, and all tables in both the Horizon Patient Folder and Image Engine System Administrator application (scanning and indexing queues).
5. Daily monitors and manages all work queues including Index Correction Utility queue.
6. Works closely with Information Services and other counterparts to ensure communications are occurring with regard to system and operational issues. Coordinates with Information Services to set priorities and schedule all major activities.
7. Directs and participates in the various system maintenance functions. Serves as the primary resource for scanner issues and contacts appropriate service
8. Maintains patient, medical record, department and employee confidentiality at all times.
9. Assists others with special projects and responsibilities and adjusts work schedule to meet department needs.
10. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities

Required Education, Credential(s) and

Experience:

  • Education:

    Associate Degree
    ;
    Applied Science
    ;
    Or an Associate's Degree in Health Information Management.

  • Experience:

    Required:

    Three years of experience in Health Information Management in a hospital setting. Preferred:
    Four years of experience in Health Information Management in a hospital setting.

    Registered Health Information Technician
