Salary Range: 16.98 - 25.48 Hourly
Front Office Assistants greet patients, activate patient files, and move patients through a pre‑determined schedule of appointments at a physician's office. They are the first line of communication between a patient and a doctor, whether it's on the phone or in person. They answer questions and provide general information or may direct a patient to a person who can provide the information.
They keep, update, and maintain records by getting the appropriate information from both patients and doctors.
- Performs front desk, receptionist and registration duties while maintaining efficient patient flow.
- Assists the office in all aspects of daily operation as needed including mentoring Front Office Assistant I and preparing the patient for the visit.
- Ensures timely, efficient, and accurate scheduling of surgery patients by completing the patient registration process for surgical patients and facilitating pre‑surgery and day‑of‑surgery instructions.
- Obtains insurance authorizations/referrals. Upon patient arrival, initiates proper forms for the medical and financial record and collects signatures where necessary. Collects payment for office visit.
- Registers patient in system and maintains proper medical records.
- Informs patients of practice policies regarding billing, insurance, workers’ compensation, and charges.
- Schedules new patient and established patient follow‑up appointments and coordinates appointments with other specialists or departments as directed.
- Manages clinic schedules.
- Completes Real Time Eligibility (RTE).
- Maintains efficient filing and record‑maintenance system for required business, medical, and The Joint Commission (TJC) licenses/registrations and follows all HIPAA requirements.
- Performs general clerical duties as required.
- Performs checkout and end‑of‑day reconciliation functions.
- Keeps informed of current insurance authorization/referral procedures.
- May be cross‑trained to medical assistant functions.
- All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED. - Credential(s):
None required. - Experience:
One‑year clerical, office, and customer service experience in a healthcare environment required; two or more years preferred.
