Job SummaryThe Certified Peer Support Specialist will provide outreach and recovery support services to individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and/or mental health challenges within the community. This role focuses on engagement, peer support, advocacy, recovery guidance, and connecting individuals to treatment and community resources.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct outreach to individuals living in unhoused situations, including encampments, tent cities, wooded areas, under bridges, and other community locations.
- Provide immediate support and guidance to individuals seeking recovery and mental health treatment services.
- Engage individuals in conversations regarding treatment options, recovery programs, and available community resources.
- Build rapport and establish trusting relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness and behavioral health challenges.
- Deliver direct and indirect peer support services to clients and their families.
- Provide emotional support, encouragement, and recovery-focused mentoring.
- Assist with transportation and referrals to treatment programs and support services.
- Support crisis intervention efforts as needed.
- May administer Narcan and/or provide CPR assistance when appropriate and trained to do so.
- Maintain documentation and communicate effectively with program staff and community partners.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must have lived experience with mental illness and/or addiction recovery and be willing to self-disclose lived experience for education, role modeling, and peer support purposes.
- Peer Support Certification required or willingness to obtain certification within six months of hire.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented services and community resources.
- Ability to work independently in community-based settings.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and recovery-focused approach to client engagement.
- Onsite position.
- Travel/driving is required.
- Standard daytime schedule, Monday through Friday.
- Position supports outreach and engagement efforts within the Mobile Bridge Program.
