Physical Therapist Assistant

Position Summary

Performs selected patient treatments under general supervision of the supervising and/or staff physical therapist, director, or their designee. Responsible for overall direction, utilization, supervision, instruction, and evaluation of supportive staff, volunteers, and students utilized in the department/facility.

• Treatment Quality
  • Ensure that physical therapy practices are consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
  • Treat patients of all ages, races, creeds, genders, and disabilities without bias or prejudice.
  • Demonstrate respect and understanding of the patient’s right to treatment and involvement in treatment decisions; practice patient‑centric shared decision making.
  • Practice ethical responsibility based on the cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs of patients as applicable by law.
  • Maintain a level of care consistent with the plan of care in relation to specific therapeutic or manual interventions and other modalities deemed appropriate by the supervising physical therapist.
  • Confere with the physical therapist most closely associated with the patient to keep them informed of additional needs, treatment modification, and/or progress.
• Treatment Quantitative
  • Maintain a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the department/facility.
  • Practice caseload management as it pertains to NS, CXL and reschedules, including communication with the supervising physical therapist; follow the plan of care established by the physical therapist with appropriate frequency, progressions, and interventions.
  • Billing/CPT or RVU matches the time spent with the patient within department standards.
• Records and Reports
  • Prepare and submit department/facility reports, assuring confidentiality of all records.
  • Complete discharge summaries in conjunction with the supervising physical therapist.
  • Assist supervising physical therapists in completing progress notes and communications with referring physicians and agencies.
  • Complete daily notes in a timely fashion while supporting medical necessity.
  • Produce special reports as requested by the director and/or manager.
• Professional Status and Public Relations
  • Maintain current professional knowledge of techniques and trends.
  • Attend continuing education, meetings, or special courses whenever possible and share gained information with department/facility personnel.
  • Prepare and present educational presentations to community groups as requested.
  • Maintain positive public relations with all community sources.

  • Willingly provide coverage, volunteer assistance, and maintain workflows within the department as needed without direct instruction or supervision.
  • Work cooperatively and refrain from participating in negative conversations.
  • Share knowledge and insights with co‑workers constructively.
  • Work to solve problems and address conflicts with the appropriate person directly before involving leadership or uninvolved peers.
  • Be considerate of others in the work environment with regard to taking breaks or meal periods, computer and phone use, noise level, etc.
• Policies and Procedures
  • Know and comply with policies and procedures as enumerated in the Orthopedic One Employee Handbook and related documents.
  • Provide assistance and support to leadership in implementing policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Actively participate in training and conduct day‑to‑day work activities by adhering to all policies and procedures enumerated in compliance and risk management programs.

• Graduate of an approved Physical Therapy Assistant program with a preferred minimum of two (2) years of orthopedic department/facility experience. New graduates with orthopedic clinical experience are encouraged to apply.
• Must be eligible for, or hold, State licensure or registration. Registration must be obtained within one (1) year or as per state law.
• Maintain and provide verification card for CPR certification including BLS/AED training.
