Summary Statement

The incumbent will serve as the psychology representative on a multidisciplinary treatment team within the Jane

E. Mitchell Forensic Unit at the Delaware Psychiatric Center. Responsibilities include completing psychological assessments, developing and maintaining individualized treatment plans, maintaining treatment schedules, preparing discharge documentation, overseeing competency restoration programming, facilitating group and individual competency sessions, providing individual therapy, supervising psychology students, and providing coverage for other psychologists as needed.

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.

  • Experience writing forensic reports that include but are not limited to risk assessments, mental status, psychosocial history and provide recommendations
Essential Functions

  • Selects, administers, scores and interprets a wide variety of psychological tests to measure and evaluate intelligence, achievement, personality, interests and other mental characteristics.
  • Interviews and observes individuals at play, in group interactions, or other situations to detect indications of mental deficiency, abnormal behavior, or maladjustment.
  • Communicates with public, private and state agencies, community service organizations, courts, schools, police and families in order to develop effective treatment strategies.
  • Analyzes information to assess individual problems.
  • Evaluates the relevance and importance of psychological theories, concepts and principles.
  • Identifies symptoms, makes diagnoses and develops approach to treatment.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans, evaluates effectiveness and adapts plans.
  • Engages individuals in assisting in the identification of their emotional problems and in the identification of a variety of interventions to address these issues.
  • Provides psychotherapy and other various treatments to individuals, groups and/or families.
  • Conducts psychological practice according to the ethical standards of psychology.
  • Writes progress notes and reports regarding test interpretation, evaluation and individual progress.
Job Requirements
  • Possession of a doctoral degree in psychology.
  • Possession of a Delaware Psychologist license or eligibility for a Delaware Psychologist license.
Conditions of Hire

As a condition of hire, if the applicant does not possess a Delaware Psychologist license, the applicant must agree as a requirement of employment to obtain a Delaware Psychologist license within 6 months. Failure to obtain the Delaware license within this timeframe will result in termination of employment.

A writing sample will be requested at the time of interview.
