Metra, a premier commuter rail system serving the Chicago metropolitan area, is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Project Manager to lead its Operations Planning & Analysis initiatives. As one of the most complex transit systems in North America, Metra provides vital connectivity across Cook, DuPage, Lake, Will, Kane, and McHenry Counties.
ResponsibilitiesThe new hire will report to the Senior Director of Interline Train Operations and will be instrumental in ensuring the success of large-scale, multi-stakeholder transportation projects.
This role requires overseeing the full lifecycle of projects, ensuring strategic alignment with operational goals, managing interdepartmental teams, and delivering results through data-backed decision‑making.
From leading project scoping to establishing performance metrics, the position balances strategic vision with technical execution.
QualificationsCandidates must have at least five years of project management experience in transportation or a closely related field and two years of supervisory experience.
Technical familiarity with tools such as SQL, Power BI, GIS, and EAM systems is highly valued.
Strong leadership, analytical thinking, and communication skills are essential.
The role demands flexibility, occasional travel across Metra’s operating region, and the ability to work in varying environmental conditions.
Compensation & BenefitsThe position offers a competitive salary ranging from $91,021 to $136,531, depending on experience and qualifications, with top‑tier candidates eligible for midpoint compensation of $113,776.
