Strapper/Forklift Operator
REPORTS TO:
Shipping Manager / Shipping Lead
The Bander/Unitizer will work with the other crew members to the mutual advantage of the shipping department, under methods which will further the safety of the employees, economy of the operation, quality of the output, cleanliness of work, and care of the equipment. Responsible for all activities associated with safely operating and caring for forklift.
Duties and Responsibilities- Operates the automatic strapping machine.
- Properly straps the loads in a neat and secure manner.
- Assures the correct number of straps are used and properly positioned with the correct tension.
- Operates the entry and exit automatic conveyors in a manner to keep a steady flow of units.
- Is constantly alert to safety hazards and follows safe working practices.
- Reports all safety hazards and unsafe acts to the department supervisor.
- Must successfully complete DCP Forklift Certification within 5 days of hire.
- Operation and care of forklifts in a safe manner.
- Complete and document a forklift inspection form before the start of the shift or when switching to a different forklift.
- Complete and submit maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs daily.
- Remove finished goods from conveyor lines.
- Maintain neat, orderly, and safe stacks of stock in storage areas.
- Maintain accurate location of stock in storage area via paperwork, scanner, and computer.
- Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed.
- Adhere to the daily production schedule.
- Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery, and service goals.
- Assist other forklift operators as necessary and provide backup to the Shipping Lead.
- Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to:
Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, and Quality Data. - Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
- Additional duties may be assigned by management.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior work experience in the corrugated industry (preferred).
- Prior work as a forklift operator with inventory and scanner experience (preferred).
Able to read and follow instructions.
Mathematical SkillsAble to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, decimals, percentages, measurements, volume, and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
Technical SkillsThe individual must have a working knowledge of the following:
Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation. Product layouts and production specifications. Product quality specifications. Quality standards.

The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel;
reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
