General SummaryThe Nursing Assistant position involves delivering clinical nursing services to patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse or therapist. After competency verification, the nursing assistant may provide care to infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Care may include bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulating, transferring, feeding, observing, and reporting the general well‑being of patients. The nursing assistant also coordinates clerical duties to maintain efficient patient care areas.
Department team members may have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties and responsibilities as defined in this job description. Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non‑Licensed Personnel form on file.
Responsibilities- Follow nursing assistant plan of care established by the Registered Nurse within a specified timeframe; including mouth care, bathing, AM and PM care, assistance with ambulation, transfers, vital sign documentation, and accurate intake/output recording.
- Perform duties with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care on assigned units.
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
- Communicate relevant patient information to a professional nurse within an appropriate time based on urgency, and report problems immediately.
- Answer intercom or call lights in a timely, courteous manner, giving appropriate communication to the patient and/or professional nurse.
- Perform patient care based on established guidelines for diagnostic and therapeutic exams (e.g., NPO for labs or x‑rays, OR, diet changes related to tests, enema‑related tests).
- Perform safety and suicide precaution sitter duties as assigned.
- Assist other members of the nursing team and/or ancillary departments as requested.
- Perform all other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED - Credentials:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. - Experience:
(Must meet ONE)- Completed training (CNA, MA, or PCT course).
- Completed a Clinical Lab Simulation (must have official transcript).
- Active or recent CNA certification (any state).
- 1+ year of work experience in direct patient care (HHA, MA, PCT, or Nursing Asst).
