Veterinary Extern - General Practice & Equine Medicine

Job Description

Governors Avenue Animal Hospital (GP) and Delmarva Equine Clinic employ staff dedicated to a positive legacy in general practice or equine medicine. Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services, observe/assist or perform surgical procedures, and manage medical treatment of patients.

In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences at Governors Avenue Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.  to view list of stipend amounts and here for details on the stipend program.
