Job Description:
Do you have what it takes to be part of our team? The Laborer II position is to maintain outdoor City property. This position is responsible for assigned tasks and semi-skilled labor in the maintenance, repair, improvement of city parks, recreational facilities, grounds, and related infrastructure. This position operates equipment, supports landscaping and maintenance projects. This position works under general supervision according to some procedures;
decides how and when to complete tasks.
- Maintain parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, trails, and landscaped areas
- Inspect and repair playground equipment, benches, fencing, and park amenities
- Prepare and maintain athletic fields (lining, grading, dragging infields, etc.)
- Remove trash, debris, and hazardous materials from park areas
- Perform basic carpentry and painting
- Assist with event setup and teardown (stages, tents, seating, signage)
- Improve outdoor area appearance by mowing grass, pruning and trimming trees, and cutting back vegetation in alley ways.
- Maintain outdoor area vegetation by putting down mulch, pulling weeds from flower beds, and otherwise promoting healthy growth.
- Perform seasonal tasks such as raking and blowing leaves and putting up Christmas lights.
- Perform necessary yard repairs.
- Assist with other crews with Parks & Recreation tasks.
- Operate light to moderately heavy equipment (e.g., mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, small loaders)
- Perform snow and ice removal (seasonal, if applicable)
- Follow all safety procedures and report hazards or incidents
- Other duties as assigned.
- Requires high school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training.
A criminal background investigation and driver’s license review will be required. Candidates may be given a job-related test during the interview.
