Distribution Utility Worker III
The Distribution Utility Worker III is responsible for assisting in maintenance, repair, and inspection of fire hydrants, water distribution valves, and related components. Duties include installation and repair of water service lines, meters, and pits, as well as aid in repairing sewage collection systems. All work is performed to a standard of care and professionalism. Reports to a distribution foreman or site supervisor.

- Assist in installing water service connections.
- Assist in repair of sewer collection systems.
- Uncover marked or suspected utilities by shovel as directed by crew leader.
- Backfill material, tamp to ensure proper compaction, rake to remove clumps, and seed.
- Use mechanical tampers to compact disturbed areas in roadways and parking lots.
- Assist in repairing water leaks, damaged meter pits, and other water system components.
- May be required to work unscheduled overtime.
- Must adhere to Company Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Assist in operation checks and inspections of fire hydrants.
- Make repairs to fire hydrants to meet local operational requirements.
- Locate and map water distribution valves and components.
- Respond to freeze-ups and take appropriate action to resolve and correct the problem.
- Perform other duties as directed to assist other departments.
- Assist with water main flushing operations.
- Capable of working well with others and without direct supervision.
- Must be able to receive and follow directions of others.
- Ability to operate equipment such as backhoe, trencher, tamper, and sewer snake.
- Basic computer skills to complete timesheets and work orders.
- Average overall mechanical skills.
- Able to interact with customers professionally and maintain a positive company image.
- Valid driver’s license. Must obtain a Class “A” CDL license within 1 year of hire if required.
- Frequent standing, sitting, walking, and driving.
- Routinely using shovels and hand tools.
- Regularly climb in and out of trenches with and without ladders.
- Routinely bend, crouch, kneel, work in confining spaces and over one’s head.
- Occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and more with assistance.
- Routinely walk on uneven ground and slopes.
- Indoors and outdoors in all types of weather and temperatures.
- Exposed to continuous background noise and water treatment chemicals.
- Rarely exposed to raw sewage.
- Occasionally exposed to loud noises and fumes.
- Salary Range: $36,592 - $54,888 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. All candidates must successfully pass a drug screen, pre‑employment physical, background check, and possess a valid driver’s license in good standing (if required for the position). Additionally, must be cleared by Department of Defense to access government facility.
