Position: DE DSP PART-TIME OVERNIGHT - Dover, DE (35899)

Overview

Direct Support Professionals (DSP) needed n’s Community Services (SJCS) in Dover, DE. This is a part-time overnight position working Thursday–Saturday, 11:00 PM–9:00 AM.

Responsibilities

Provide appropriate level of supervision and training to persons served to facilitate their social wellbeing, health and safety in the least restrictive environment.

Administer medication to persons served per medication administration procedures upon successful state required certifications.

Assist persons served to take public transportation or ensure transport to access community resources. Assist with planning and implementation of daily activities, including those that promote social inclusion and building social capital for each person served.

Follow prescribed SJCS procedures to document supports provided to persons served including progress towards skill acquisition, choices, health matters, achievements and challenges daily.

Attend and participate in all mandated events, workshops, training, investigations and meetings.

Ensure responsible usage of personal and agency resources, e.g. vehicles, property, finances, etc.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements and qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. required
One or more years related experience working with persons with disabilities required; experience in community based programs preferred
Must meet SJCS and funding jurisdiction current requirements for criminal background/records check
Valid health certificate to meet current funding jurisdiction requirements
Valid state-issued driver’s license with current driving record in good standing preferred

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of community resources that lead to social inclusion and autonomy of persons served
Ability to gain working knowledge of SJCS policies and procedures
Ability to act as a representative of SJCS to the public
Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with other staff and individuals from diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of acceptable meal assistance and safety practices and procedures
Skilled in the operation of relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and office machines

Other requirements for all SJCS employees

Obtain a valid health certificate to meet current funding authority requirements as required
Having a valid state-issued driver’s license with a current driving record in good standing is required
Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks

Physical and environmental conditions

Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times
Work environment involves risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions
Safely operating a motor vehicle; lifting, transferring and/or positioning persons served; exposure to aggressive behavior; and avoidance of trips and falls
