Summary Statement

The Environmental Justice Office at DNREC is seeking a Community Assistance Provider to support outreach and community capacity building in Kent and Sussex Counties. This is primarily a field position that will document neighborhood-based community institutions such as houses of worship, social service organizations, and small businesses. The Community Assistance Provider will identify and attend recurring community meetings, participate in neighborhood-based community events, and support the department’s meaningful engagement efforts.

The position will also support EJO evaluation and coordination for the Community Environmental Project Fund.

Preferred Qualification

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.

  • Experience in oral and written proficiency in Spanish and/or Haitian.
Essential Functions
  • Creates formatted documents, generates and shares presentations, develops and manages spreadsheets, and maintains information in databases.
  • Assist in the development and posting of materials to social media sites.
  • Coordinates timely and accurate responses and information to citizens, community groups or governmental agencies.
  • Reviews, processes, and evaluates information for completeness, accuracy, and conformity with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Resolves discrepancies, deficiencies in information, or other issues.
  • Coordinates and conducts public meetings, media events or educational programs.
  • Evaluates and recommends agency events, programs and services to meet community needs.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and have fun.
Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • One year experience in providing guidance and consultation to customers and others on accessing resources and understanding processes.
  • Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  • Six months experience in public speaking or interpretation.
  • Knowledge of conducting field work to collect survey data.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
