J.R. Heald Builders is a family-owned residential builder and remodeler serving New Hampshire's Seacoast. We're intentionally scaling our operations so we can deliver consistent craftsmanship, a strong client experience, and wins for everyone: our clients, our team, and our partners.
We're building our estimating function beyond a one-person operation. You will own the numbers side of preconstruction, tight scopes, accurate takeoffs, clean trade coverage, and clear handoffs to production, so projects start organized and stay that way. This is ideal for an estimator who understands residential remodels/additions and new construction, is detail-driven, and communicates proactively.
Key Responsibilities- Create complete estimates for remodels, additions, and custom residential projects
- Perform takeoffs from plans and field conditions; identify scope gaps early
- Build scopes and solicit/level subcontractor quotes for full trade coverage
- Develop allowances, options, and value-engineering when appropriate
- Maintain estimating templates, cost codes, and historical cost data
- Support proposal creation and a clean precon handoff to PM/production
- Work inside our systems (Job Tread experience is a major plus)
- Estimates that are clear, thorough, and production-ready
- Fewer scope surprises during construction
- Strong trade partner relationships and reliable pricing
- Organized systems that improve over time (1% better each day)
- Residential estimating experience (remodeling/additions preferred)
- Strong scope capture and attention to detail
- Organized, deadline-capable, and calm under pressure
- Clear, proactive communicator who flags risks early
- Tech-comfortable with estimating tools and spreadsheets (Google Suite, Microsoft Office)
- Experience working in Job Tread is a plus
- Team-first mindset aligned with our core values
- Ability to pass a background check upon a conditional offer
- Reliable transportation for occasional site visits
- Smartphone/tech readiness for communication and documentation
- Full-time, W-2 Employment
- Pay: $75,000 to $95,000 (based on experience)
- Medical with company contribution, dental, vision and other supplementals
- 401(k) with a match of up to 4%
- Paid time off
- Core hours typically 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM (flexible as needed)
