Overview

The Community Services Director is looking for a responsible individual to be responsible for the oversight, operation, and maintenance of the City’s water treatment facilities, well supplies, tank sites, recharge / booster stations. Provides technical leadership and direction to treatment staff while ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant system performance. Supports the operation, maintenance, and repair of the water supply. Assists with broader public works and facility maintenance activities when required to support department operations.

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week non-exempt position. $32.61 to $47.20 per hour. Position is open until filled.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position. The listed examples may not include all duties found in this class):

  • Ensure the continuous production and delivery of safe, reliable, and compliant drinking water to all City water customers in accordance with state and federal regulations
  • Lead the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of water supply wells, treatment plants, booster stations, storage tanks, and recharge facilities, including inspection of equipment, pumps, controls, and instrumentation to ensure proper and efficient operation
  • Perform and oversee raw water and finished water sampling and testing; adjust treatment processes, chemical feed systems, and controls to maintain water quality, regulatory compliance, and system performance
  • Plan, schedule, and implement preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and minor construction activities related to water treatment and distribution infrastructure
  • Provide technical leadership and training to water treatment staff in the operation, maintenance, and repair of wells, treatment equipment, chemical systems, SCADA, electrical components, and mechanical systems
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot treatment plant equipment, pumps, generators, analyzers, chemical feed systems, and related electrical and control systems, including integration with the SCADA environment
  • Maintain accurate operational records including inspections, maintenance activities, chemical usage, process control data, compliance sampling, and laboratory results as required by regulatory agencies
  • Conduct routine and advanced laboratory testing; evaluate and trend analytical data; prepare reports; and use results to support process optimization and regulatory compliance
  • Order, receive, handle, and safely transfer treatment chemicals including bulk and day tank systems; ensure proper storage, inventory control, and safety practices
  • Create, track, and manage work orders and maintenance documentation within the City’s maintenance management system
  • Perform general facility upkeep and housekeeping to maintain clean, safe, and organized work environments at all water facilities
  • Maintain emergency power systems including generators and fuel systems; inspect fluids, belts, batteries, and operational readiness
  • Train and mentor new water employees to ensure competency in treatment operations, safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and equipment use
  • Provide leadership and accountability for laboratory operations, including oversight of the Laboratory Technician, verification of analytical results, regulatory reporting, quality control practices, and integration of laboratory data into treatment and operational decision making
  • Operate assigned motor vehicles and equipment in support of water treatment, maintenance, and emergency response activities
  • Respond to and mitigate operational, environmental, and infrastructure emergencies affecting the water system, including extreme weather, equipment failure, water quality events, and power outages
  • Assist with capital improvement planning, system upgrades, instrumentation projects, and process improvements related to water treatment and distribution
  • Represent the City professionally when interacting with the public; respond to customer concerns related to water quality and system operations
